Product Details
Polyethylene Glycol 200 (PEG-200) is a low molecular weight, colorless, transparent, and highly water-soluble nonionic polymer liquid with an average molecular weight of approximately 190–210 g/mol. Its viscosity ranges between 4.3–5.4 cP (25°C), exhibiting both low volatility (boiling point >250°C) and low vapor pressure. This product exhibits exceptional miscibility, being fully miscible with water in any proportion. It also forms homogeneous systems with most polar organic solvents (such as alcohols, ketones, and glycerol) and certain non-polar solvents. Additionally, it serves as an effective solubilizer to promote compatibility between oil-phase and water-phase components, though it is insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons and diethyl ether.
Chemically, PEG-200 possesses a stable ether bond structure, exhibiting good tolerance to weak acids, weak bases, and electrolytes. It is resistant to hydrolysis and oxidation. The primary hydroxyl group at its molecular end provides mild reactivity, facilitating derivatization modifications such as esterification and etherification.
In applications, PEG-200 serves as a functional additive across multiple industries due to its unique physicochemical properties:In pharmaceuticals, it functions as a safe solvent and moisturizing plasticizer for oral liquid formulations and topical gels, regulating drug release rates and enhancing formulation stability; In cosmetics and personal care products, it functions as a mild emollient and viscosity modifier, imparting a refreshing skin feel while enhancing active ingredient penetration without disrupting the skin barrier. In industrial applications, PEG-200 serves as an efficient lubricant and antistatic agent in textile processing, as well as a film-forming aid and leveling agent in water-based coating systems, optimizing application properties and improving coating gloss. Additionally, in chemical synthesis, it is frequently employed as a phase transfer catalyst or reaction medium.

Precautions
1.Liquid and solid grades of polyethylene glycol are incompatible with certain pigments;
2.It can reduce the activity of antibiotics, especially penicillin and bacitracin;
3.The preservative effect of hydroxyphenyl esters can be weakened by complexation with polyethylene glycol;
4.Phenols, tannic acid, and salicylic acid can soften and liquefy it;
5.Sulfonamides and anthraquinone can cause discoloration when reacted with it;
6.It can form a precipitate when combined with sorbitol.
Stability and storage conditions
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) exhibits good chemical stability in both air and aqueous solutions. However, varieties with a molecular weight below 2000 are prone to hygroscopicity. This substance does not provide suitable conditions for microbial growth and is not easily rancid.
PEG and its aqueous solutions can be sterilized using various methods, including autoclaving, filtration, and gamma-ray sterilization. It is important to note that dry heat sterilization at 150°C for 1 hour can easily trigger oxidation, leading to product degradation.
This product should be stored in a cool, dry environment, with the container kept sealed at all times. Liquid PEG can be stored in stainless steel, aluminum, or glass containers.
