1,3-Butylene Glycol, also known as 1,3-dihydroxybutane or 1,3-butanediol, it is an organic compound. It is soluble in water, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, ethanol, dibutyl phthalate, and castor oil, while remaining nearly insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons, benzene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, ethanolamines, mineral oil, and linseed oil. When heated, it can dissolve nylon and partially dissolve shellac and rosin. Due to its relatively high boiling point, it is prone to air oxidation during atmospheric distillation; therefore, distillation under reduced pressure is recommended. The product is odorless with a slightly bitter-sweet taste, and it exhibits strong hygroscopicity.
