UV-326, also known as UV Absorber 326 or Bumetrizole, is a benzotriazole ultraviolet absorber (UVA) designed to protect polymers and other organic materials from UV-induced degradation. It absorbs harmful ultraviolet radiation and helps reduce the deterioration of polymer materials caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight and other UV sources.

UV-326 is particularly valued for its low volatility, thermal stability and compatibility with a wide range of polymer systems. Commercial technical data indicate that it provides strong UV absorption in the approximately 290–400 nm region, with a maximum absorption around 355 nm.By reducing the amount of damaging UV energy reaching the polymer matrix, UV-326 UV absorber can help slow discoloration, surface degradation, loss of mechanical properties and other forms of photo-aging.

Key Features of UV-326

 

1. The molecular structure of UV-326 belongs to the hydroxyphenyl benzotriazole family. This type of benzotriazole UV absorber is widely used for polymer stabilization because it can absorb UV radiation while offering good compatibility with many organic substrates.

2. UV-326 has a relatively low vapor pressure and good resistance to thermal degradation, making it suitable for polymer processing conditions where the additive needs to remain in the material during manufacturing.

3. For applications requiring long-term outdoor durability, UV-326 can also be combined with HALS (hindered amine light stabilizers) to build a broader light-stabilization system.

 

Application of UV-326

 

UV Absorber UV-326 is used in a variety of polymer and coating systems where protection against UV radiation and photo-aging is required. It can be incorporated into polyolefins, PVC, ABS, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, epoxy resins and cellulose-based resins, as well as selected natural and synthetic rubber systems.

In plastics and polymer compounds, UV-326 helps improve resistance to sunlight-induced degradation, making it suitable for materials intended for outdoor or light-exposed applications. It can help reduce yellowing, discoloration and deterioration of physical properties caused by prolonged UV exposure.

In coatings and paints, UV-326 can be incorporated into suitable formulations to improve resistance to UV-induced aging. It is particularly relevant to coatings where maintaining appearance and substrate protection during outdoor exposure is important.

For ABS and engineering plastics, UV-326 can be used as part of a light-stabilization package to improve resistance to weathering and photo-degradation. Its relatively high thermal stability makes it suitable for polymer systems subjected to elevated processing temperatures.

UV-326 is also applicable to selected synthetic rubber, natural rubber and polymer fiber systems, where protection against UV exposure can help extend material durability.
