Naphthol AS-CA, also known as Naphthol AS-CL, is a type of naphthol derivative specifically designed for the synthesis of high-performance azo dyes. Its specific CAS number varies depending on isomer differences. This product appears as a fine powder with a light color and well-defined crystal structure. It remains stable at room temperature but must be stored under sealed, light-proof conditions to ensure its chemical activity and long-term efficacy. As a core coupling component in the ice dye system, its key characteristic lies in its ability to form soluble sodium salts in alkaline aqueous solutions, enabling uniform adsorption onto cellulose fibers (such as cotton and rayon) and protein fibers (such as silk).

Subsequently, it undergoes an in-situ coupling reaction with diazonium salts that penetrate the fiber, generating insoluble azo pigments within the fiber matrix. This unique "in-fiber synthesis" mechanism allows it to produce a wide spectrum of colors (notably vibrant reds and browns) with rich, saturated shades, while imparting exceptional lightfastness and washfastness to the final product. It is widely used in high-end textiles, leather dyeing, and the manufacturing of high-performance pigments and inks.
