Recently, the domestic disperse dye market has seen a new round of significant price hikes. Starting July 21, the two leading companies in the industry uniformly adjusted their product prices. Due to tightening supplies of upstream chemical intermediates, prices for core raw materials rose by as much as 300 percent. with mainstream black and blue dyes increasing by 2,000 to 3,000 yuan per metric ton, and the entire dye product line seeing simultaneous price hikes in the range of 1,000 yuan. Cost pressures are being passed down the supply chain to textile printing and dyeing factories and trading companies nationwide.
As a key hub for greige fabric dyeing and fabric finishing nationwide, Keqiao is home to hundreds of printing and dyeing, weaving, and fabric trading companies. Dyes and chemical materials previously accounted for about 25% of total printing and dyeing processing costs, but following the price hikes, this proportion has soared to over 45%, causing production costs for small and medium-sized factories to rise sharply. Many dyeing and printing enterprises have been forced to raise fabric processing fees to pass on the pressure, but as this coincides with the traditional off-season for the textile industry, downstream apparel brands are proceeding at a leisurely pace with their fall and winter inventory preparations. Buyers are extremely reluctant to accept the price hikes, leaving enterprises caught in a dilemma: "accepting orders at a loss or losing orders and customers".
Faced with this industry-wide squeeze from both ends, the Dyeing and Printing Industry Association has taken the lead in coordinating efforts. On one hand, it is guiding enterprises to optimize dye formulations and implement water-saving and energy-efficient processes to reduce consumable expenses; on the other hand, it is helping the industry band together to negotiate long-term supply agreements with upstream manufacturers to mitigate the risks of short-term price volatility. Industry analysts predict that this round of dye price increases is unlikely to subside in the short term, forcing printing and dyeing companies to accelerate their transition to green dyeing and finishing processes and expand into the high-end functional fabrics market. By leveraging product value-added to offset the pressure of rising raw material costs, traditional, extensive processing models will gradually fade from the mainstream market.
